About Us

Our coaching programs are customized to meet the specific needs of your

practice and team. Just as every practice has different strengths, weaknesses,

and personalities, they usually have different goals and ideas for the kind of

training they would prefer. After spending time with you to discuss your practice,

and conducting a thorough practice assessment, we tailor a program of in-office training that is designed specifically for you.

In addition to our coaching services, throughout the year we offer clinical courses at our training facility, The Conejo Valley Dental Institute. We offer courses on a variety of laboratory topics, indirect restorations, anterior courses, endodontic courses, implant courses, dental photography courses, case presentation training, and quarterly training sessions for dental employees.

Scott Clifton Stewart
President

In addition to having a degree in business management, Scott has twelve years of management experience, which includes personnel management and training, customer service development, budget development, expense and inventory control, and marketing. He entered the dental

field in 1991. In 1994, he and his wife decided Southern California was where they wanted to raise a family and settled into the Thousand Oaks community. They have three children and are actively involved with them and in various community service organizations.

Scott has worked with hundreds of dental practices developing business plans, coaching and training dental teams, developing leadership skills, enhancing communication skills, and successfully helping practices grow to new levels of productivity and profitability. In addition to being the primary trainer of the in-office coaching programs, he speaks regularly at the Conejo Valley Dental Institute and a variety of dental society and study club meetings throughout Southern California.

 
Andrew Knapp
Director of Sales and Marketing

Andy has a degree in Marketing from California State University Northridge. From 1989 - 2000 Andy worked

with two major dental product manufacturers and distributors providing product & sales training, marketing concepts, product development, and managed both a telemarketing and outside sales division. He joined Clifton & Associates, Inc. in September of 2000 and is in charge

of marketing development and clinical courses held at

The Conejo Valley Dental Institute.

 

Rodney P. Burton, D.D.S.
Clinical Director


After graduating from Northwestern University in 1983,
Dr. Burton began practicing dentistry in the United States Army Dental Corp from 1983 to 1986. He then practiced privately until 1999 in Thousand Oaks, CA. In 1999, he began focusing primarily on teaching. In addition to numerous hours of continuing education, he has also attended The Las Vegas Institute and The Seattle Institute, and has served on the faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles.

He currently continues to practice full-time restorative dentistry, serves as Clinical Director of Clifton & Associates, Inc., Training Director of Pacific Dental Lab, Director of Education for the Conejo Valley Dental Institute. His focus is on implementation of techniques in adhesive dentistry, photography, and case presentation skills.
 
Stephen L. Sperry

Born and raised in Van Nuys, California with his 9 brothers and sisters, Steve is the newest member of our team. He comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from his 20+ years in business and dental consulting. Steve's father, Lyman, was a successful entrepreneur and early investor in Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises on the West coast. Steve learned the importance of faith and family and leading a balanced life from his father, and was profoundly influenced by his father's integrity, and willingness to try new ventures.


When it came time to attend college, having an influential and admired grandfather in the Nevada State Senate inspired Steve to major in Political Science at Brigham Young University. An accomplished athlete growing up, Steve played cornerback for BYU's football team. He met his wife Dianne at BYU, and they will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary later this year.

After college, Steve was hired to work for a fast growing medical equipment firm based in San Bernardino. He took over the struggling Los Angeles market, and in a matter of months, turned it into the company's most profitable. Steve's success in LA led to an opportunity to open a new market in Dallas, Texas. Steve's success in Dallas surpassed even that of Los Angeles, and contributed to the multi-million dollar buyout of the company.


In 1987, Steve fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning his own company and founded Pinnacle Practices, Inc., now the largest dental consulting firm in the South. Over 18 years, Steve developed in house programs, teaching strategies, and workshops for his dental clients and worked "hands on" with over 850 practices, insuring their success. In addition, Steve lectured regularly at dental schools, dental societies, universities, and study groups, and contributed several articles to dental journals and magazines.

In December 2004, Steve sold his company in Dallas and joined the Clifton and Associates Team. Steve is a "California boy" at heart, and is happy to have the opportunity to work with Scott Stewart and his outstanding team in Southern California.


Steve continues to enjoy sports, and especially enjoys watching his two children play ice hockey. His daughter, Cassie, will be attending Northeastern University in Boston on a hockey scholarship next year. His son, Stephen, plays hockey for the U-17 USA National team.

 
Becky Leehey

Becky is the newest member of the Clifton & Associates team. She joins us with more than 15 years of business marketing and management experience. Her background includes sales and customer service training, marketing and advertising, contract negotiations, budgeting, and project management. In addition, Becky has spent many years as a business owner and understands the challenges presented to growing small businesses. Becky has a B.S. in Business Marketing from the University of Colorado and an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Regis University in Denver. She grew up in Southern California, spent 15 years in Colorado, and now again resides here.
